August 09,2010 - Contests, Mustache Summer

We have our Mustache Summer winners! Congratulations to …

After 3 days of deliberation, our judges, Elaine Chow from Shanghaiist, Jessica Beaton from CNNgo, and Jenn Wong, independent blogger (www.ourwaytofall.com) and photo contributor for SmartShanghai, have finally reached a decision.

Huge congratulations to …

Giuseppe and his underwater photography skills. Giuseppe, looks like your 25 foot meter dive paid off. You have just won a RMB 20,000 gift certificate to Ctrip English!

Grand Prize Winner! RMB 20,000 Ctrip Gift Certificate

But that’s not all! Our second place title and a RMB 7,000 gift certificate to Ctrip goes to the color-coordinated jumpin’ Expo boys, Peter and friend. Congratulations Peter!

Second Place Winner! RMB 7,000 Ctrip Gift Certificate

And our third and final prize, a RMB 3,000 Ctrip gift certificate goes to Jason’s submission of our musically gifted beach bride.

Third Place Winner! RMB 3,000 Ctrip Gift Certificate

Congratulations to all our winners, and major round of applause to all submitters. I hope you had as much fun snapping those ‘staches as I have looking at the results.

Mustache Summer may be over, but Ctrip contests are just getting started. The creative minds over here at our Shanghai headquarters are hard at work, and who knows what kind of wacky ideas we’ll come up with next.

Got some of your own ideas? Let us know!

  2. Ween!: for becoming my GF, I will post a green mustache contest: the first 10 pictures with green mustache will be submitted to a final jury, which will select the 3 lucky winners: the 1st price will be my wife. 2nd price my GF. 3rd price my lover… Being an open-to-public contest, boys and girls can all submit photos. I’ll take the risk :-P

Ween and ALL: except the marriage issues, which are further to be discussed, the serious thing is that I am really interested in founding an ORANGE MUSTACHE DIVING SOCIETY, after ctrip inspired me on this. We can group together people who love diving, oceans and more widely who love waters; people who, MAINLY, love the environment and not only want to have fun diving, but also, in their little way, want to take action in protecting the waters as much as it’s possible. We could start a club and do diving holidays together and things like that. People who cannot dive, can also join, and learn!
For everybody who wants to join the Orange Mustache Diving Society, then, well, we can now communicate here, or we may even open a blog on Ctripper if editors allow, anyway we’ll find a way. We may get a facebook group, or a mailing list.

Peter: my three secret winners were Your picture, the Indian picture (sad she didn’t make it: I voted myself for her and yours, even thought i voted for her a bit more than yours :-) , and my picture. Color wise, yours and the Indian were the best. I cannot resolve which one better, though. Content wise, I preferred my own picture. There’s a little mistake up there. It was taken 25 meters down, not 25 feet down. 25 meters mean more than 80 feet, where light is hard to get, cause the depth sucks up light the more you go down. Moreover, in that depth, there are water currents, at times very strong, and it’s almost impossible to be still: therefore the difficulty of the pic considering also that I had to do it without bubbles (holding the breath) and without the breathing regulator on… In the end I loved it, cause I could show how much I love waters and sea life and at the same time I did something uneasy. Cheers.

Paul: sorry for the middle finger. I got other shots, without fingers, technically even harder than this, but I chose this cause of the expression… In fact, I didn’t even notice that side of the picture, but after your careful comment, now i think it’s even more funny. It wasn’t a bad choice, then! :-)

  4. Guiseppe’s picture was the one we were afraid of, even though it’s not such a good shot, but it has this taste of holiday, of vacation that we don’t really have. I mean it’s English Ctrip, it’s not a site for shipping Chinese bus tourists to the expo, right? The other top ten pictures were not quite our favorites, our secret winner is the Indian lady – best picture composition, aperture, glow, colours, everything… but she didn’t make it into the top ten.

  5. I think the picture with the guys was the best: the colors, the focus, the crisp image…also Guiseppe is showing his middlefinger….

  6. I have to admit that even though I had my own picture up there, the underwater scuba picture was definitely impressive. Who is this Guiseppe guy and how do I go about becoming his girlfriend?
